EDUCAUSE (http://www.educause.edu), a highly creative, entrepreneurial, national nonprofit association whose mission is to advance higher education through the use of information technology, invites applications for the position of Data Services Manage. This position is full-time, exempt with a 12-month term and potential to extend beyond the term based on business need. The position is located in Louisville, CO though consideration will be given to candidates with an established home office.
The Data Services Manager plays a dual role to support EDUCAUSE’s internal data-intensive project work. The DSM develops, manages, strengthens and expands the association’s data reporting capabilities. The incumbent will initially report to the Chief Financial Officer (CFO) and later the Chief Information Officer (CIO) in support of the development and maintenance of the reporting framework, including tools, metrics and dashboards. The DSM will work closely with the business function leaders of the association to enhance the organization-wide business reporting efforts including: expanding reporting capabilities, ensuring fact-based decision making, and improving data quality.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Coordination and Leadership
Lead and direct all aspects of assigned data governance roadmap activities. Is responsible for project tracking and accountable for the successful implementation of the data governance roadmap.
Act as the “point person,” to coordinate and influence the association business data and tasks related to reporting business data.
Coordinate IT and data stakeholder efforts to develop a data infrastructure conducive to providing easily accessible, interactive, automated, and accurate data to business, program, and research units.
Establish and lead the association’s data governance working group to develop policies and procedures. Ensures adherence to and/or compliance with those policies.
Lead technology, infrastructure and/or special projects as needed.
Process and Standards Development
Establish practices for capturing, storing, and managing necessary data; identify when and how data can be used to support decision-making within the organization; ensures processes are in place to enable data-informed decision-making.
Enhance data quality and design overall quality control program for data management. Develop procedures and protocol for proper data integration and accuracy.
Establish operating-level agreements between IT and data stakeholders to ensure timely and predictable data access.
Reporting Infrastructure Development
Develop association’s business data reporting platform to enhance data-guided decisions.
Identify new sources of enriched data outside of the association that would enhance the overall strategy and business objectives including demographic information which could be used for customer segmentation and personalization.
Act as steward for all EDUCAUSE data assets.
Create interactive self-service reports and dashboards to give end-users business insights and enable users to analyze communicate, monitor, and forecast. Coordinate with external consultants and vendors as needed.
Facilitate staff training on reporting platform.
Metrics and KPI Development and Analysis
Collaborate with business function leaders to identify key performance measures as well as overall organization metrics.
Conduct data mining expeditions and synthesize findings into decision-support tools for EDUCAUSE stakeholders.
Lead the design and development of analysis to understand key business behaviors that affect the overall profitability of EDUCAUSE and the effective operations of the organization as a whole. Make recommendations based on findings.
Education and Experience
Prefer graduate degree in data science, statistics, operations research, psychology, psychometrics, economics, education, sociology, or related field(s) of study. A strong combination of education and experience will be considered.
A minimum of three years of professional experience in a data-intensive environment.
Documented record of successful project management.

Solid understanding of data management and familiarity with Qlik data environment.
Strong data infrastructure development experience, including data warehousing, standing up a data lake, and/or creating a virtual data warehouse.
Knowledge of visualization tools such as Qlik, Tableau, and SAS is important.
Proficient in data management best practices.
Preferred: Analytics tools training experience.
Preferred: Experience developing reporting dashboard interfaces or documenting the functional specs for reporting dashboard interface development.
Ability to communicate effectively and tactfully, in both oral and written form, with a variety of groups including technical, professional, and executive audiences.
