Entry level position in the shipping and unloading of Esters and Surfactant chemicals. This person must be willing to work in all areas of the plant including Compounding, Esters, Alkoxylation or Logistics. Common examples of daily job tasks are the following: receipts and unloading of raw materials, loading bulk trucks, spotting trailers, and performing housekeeping items.
Works without constant supervision after a job task is mastered and proven. Judgment is exercised in the initial planning of own work. The C level trained material handler initiates follow-up activities to assure smooth operation.
Job requires a moderate degree of manual dexterity to operate valves, pumps, scales, switches, etc. Minor maintenance work, such as adjusting pumps and valves, requires skill and dexterity in use of small hand tools. Must be able to operate forklift truck safely in warehouse setting and drive a trailer inside and outside the plant. This all requires sufficient manual skills. 70% of the job requires standing, walking, and climbing to observe and operate controls and valves, drumming of products, etc. 30% of the job requires manual material handling, recording data, etc. In addition, bending, stooping, lifting up to 50lbs. routinely and 60lbs on occasion, climbing ladders, and working at various heights is required. Overtime and shift operations may be required to meet customers demand.

Type of work involves operation of various types of equipment located on many levels, which requires a high degree of attention to detail.
MATERIALS OR PRODUCT:
The products produced by this plant are of varied specifications. A mistake in the loading of finished products and unloading of raw materials, the hook up and/or disconnection and/or /cleaning of lines, could result loss or contamination of finished product or raw material. These types of incidents could result in a significant financial impact to the site. Care is required to prevent loss through spills or contamination. Errors could lead to time loss, loss of product and customer dissatisfaction. Many products handled are not reworkable or require significant time and expense for disposal.
Improper operation or failure to observe safety precautions could result in fire, explosions, and damage to expensive complex equipment. Good housekeeping practices must be observed. The safety of others depends on actions of employees.
Manipulate pumps, valves, and hoses to :
- Unload raw materials to bulk storage tanks;
- Load finished product from storage tanks to tank trucks, iso containers or railcars
- Moving and spotting trailers
- Clean equipment, transfer lines, valves, pumps, etc., to avoid product contamination.
Operates forklift trucks as required
Operates the Ottowa to complete iso, trailer and tanker movements on site.
Performs trouble shooting to support maintenance activities.
Notifies supervisor or team leader of any unusual situation that may require additional attention.
Keeps assigned equipment and work area clean and orderly. Completes a daily housekeeping area.
Follows BASF's safety rules and promotes their observance in the performance of job duties. Follows BASF Corporations site and corporate policies.
Conducts visual inspection of all equipment to determine status before operating.
Performs other work as required and/or assigned.
Qualifications - BASF recognizes institutions of Higher Education which are accredited by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation or equivalent
High School or equivalent
Warehousing or bulk material handling preferred
The individual will be very safety conscious when working with and around chemicals, show initiative, have excellent attention to detail, be results oriented and customer focused, possess good communication skills, and possess the ability to work in a team environment.
Additionally, the individual must possess the willingness and ability to work outside in various weather conditions.
Basic computer skills
Willingness to obtain a CDL license
Willingness and ability to learn computer systems in use by BASF (SAP)
The individual must also be able to prioritize tasks and be self-motivated.
