Cotter Consulting is seeking an experienced Project Controls Specialist for positions based in the greater Chicago area.
Candidate will be responsible for cost control activities on assigned capital construction projects including integration of data from multiple sources to establish, maintain, and analyze commitments, accrued costs, and forecasts against established budgets and funding sources. Includes working with information from the client’s financial systems and supporting cost databases to consolidate, analyze, and produce regular cost reports. The candidate will also be responsible for developing schedules and updating schedule information to report project status and to support cost forecasting activities.
Participate in the development of overall project budgets including direct construction costs, indirect implementation costs, and appropriate contingencies.
Review estimates for overall quality and conformance with the standardized estimate development process. Ensure that estimates include realistic production rates, which can be budgeted and tracked as the projects proceed into construction.
Analyze funding, expenditures, and commitment information for accuracy.
Update financial information in the client system and support the accrual process.
Assist project managers with their project cost updates in project review meetings.
Lead monthly project review meetings for assigned projects. Review the project job cost report regarding, labor, equipment, material, change order logs, and schedule milestones. Update meeting minutes.
Analyze cost variances to established budgets and metrics for resolution with the project team.
Assist in cost loading schedules to establish a basis for cash flow projections and metrics.
Assure integrity of the information contained in project cost reports.
Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, Construction Management, Business or equivalent experience required.
Minimum 3 - 5 years of project controls experience with an emphasis on cost management.
Experience working in Utilities market is a plus.
Experience in a Program Management Office (PMO) type setting with multiple programs and projects, separate funding sources, with an integrated Master Schedule and Budget is preferred.
Experience in cost analysis during planning, design, and construction phases is preferred.
Strong Excel spreadsheet skills required to perform offline studies including data collection and analysis
Experience in developing and updating project schedules is required. Scheduling work is done in P6.
PMP, CCM, CCP or other Project Controls related professional certifications are a plus
Well-developed communications skills are required to effectively engage all levels of the project team, client organization, designers and contractors in capital cost related matters.
Must be able to provide concise status reports and assessments of critical issues.
