Assistant Director of CPE
The Assistant Director is responsible for generating program revenues and meeting annual revenue targets through development of a robust, diverse program portfolio and serving as a primary NCR contact for CPE in the NCR (National Capital Region).
This position will be independently responsible for program and portfolio level implementation strategy, project planning, budgeting and management of CPE short courses, workshops, conferences, custom corporate training, and the development of other innovative program models. The successful candidate for this position is also responsible for developing new internal and external client relationships with a strong focus on business development, program and portfolio management, and conference services. This includes assessment of program needs and marketing research, proposal and grant writing, new business development and contract negotiation. A key objective of this position is identifying and developing partnerships to address corporate, government, and community outreach and engagement needs.
This position will be based at Virginia Tech's Northern Virginia Center, West Falls Church with an expectation of regular travel within the National Capital Region. Occasional travel to the main campus in Blacksburg, Virginia and other Virginia Tech locations around the Commonwealth is expected.
This position is a restricted appointment and continuation of appointment may be contingent upon availability of funding and business needs.
Advanced degree or a Bachelor's degree with training and work experience at a level which equates to an advanced degree
Exceptionally strong communication, organizational and interpersonal skills
Demonstrated experience in educational, conference, and/or event planning/program development, implementation, administration and evaluation
Ability to develop and manage a large and diverse portfolio of programs
Experience in program budget development and management
Ability to establish and maintain good rapport with internal and external clients
Excellent marketing, promotion and sales skills
Strong computing skills and proficiency in basic office applications (Microsoft Office suite including Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook)
Doctoral degree in a related field
Familiarity with university-based academic programs, conferences and special events
Strong background in developing programs that meet the needs of corporate learners
Experience with Commonwealth and/or university policies and procedures
Experience with computer database systems related to conference and event management
CMP (Certified Meeting Planner) or PMP (Project Management Professional) certification
