Our Field Engineer career path is your opportunity to be a direct part of a construction project pre-mobilization and actual site construction work. Each day, this position offers you the chance to employ project management and technical skills while interacting with clients, contractors, local agencies and the general public during the construction of a variety of exciting and challenging projects. You should be a self-motivated professional with a BS in Engineering or Construction Management, have 5-20 years of construction engineering experience, and Field Manager program experience. Your excellent verbal and written communication skills and working knowledge of DOT construction processes will be valuable to this role. Experience with WisDOT Standard Specifications, Construction Materials Manual, Lane Closure System and FITS/MITS desired. An ideal candidate has a Wisconsin PE, current HTCP Certifications (Agg and PCC), WisDOT Project Leader experience, and familiarity with ARRA and OCIP contract requirements. Primavera Expedition or Contract Manager experience is a plus! Working knowledge of computer software programs similar to MS office programs (Word, Excel, Outlook) required. This position will require the selected candidate to lift 40 lbs, spend the day on your feet, and work outside under hot and cold conditions. A background check, standard drug test and a valid state drivers license will be required. Candidates who are willing to travel to project locations throughout the state of Wisconsin will be considered from any location within the state. You should be willing to work varying shifts including days, nights or weekends as well as have a desire to grow both personally as well as professionally with each Field Engineer job. Our Transportation Field Engineers:
- Are given an opportunity to develop along a career track in either Construction or Project Management
- Take a leadership role the project team as a Project Leader, Assistant Leader, or Project Engineer
- Mentor and train junior project staff
- Interpret or clarify contract documents
- Analyze applicable codes, standards and project contract documents and monitor construction activities to ensure compliance with standards
- Maintain or prepare a variety of records, including Meeting Minutes, Inspector Daily Reports, Source Documents, Materials Records, Change Orders and As-built drawings
- Monitor changes to determine cost and/or schedule impacts
- Perform sampling and testing of materials and take corrective actions as specified in the WisDOT Construction and Materials Manual
- Measure and document completed work items to prepare payment estimates
- Review and make recommendations to the client regarding requests for information, submittals, change orders, claims, schedule submittals, and general correspondence
- Track 'Issues' from inception to closeout (Issues are any communication, concept, idea, event or occurrence that has the potential of increasing the cost or time for the performance of the work)
- Identify and document construction and/or QC deficiencies and take appropriate measures to maintain the quality and conformance of contractor work
- Proactively and professionally resolve disputes regarding contract requirements
Qualifications: Basic Qualifications:
- BS in Engineering or Construction Management
- A minimum of 5 years on-site experience on transportation or other related projects
- FieldManager program experience
- Prior DOT construction engineering/inspection experience
