CH2M HILL Associate Design Engineer Careers - Portland, Oregon

The challenge? Helping our communities stay safely on the move. Our Associate Rail Design engineers support rail design efforts for a variety of transit and freight rail programs. Each day you will have the opportunity to work on some of the Portland region's most exciting transit and rail projects. You will work closely with other engineering professionals on multiple light rail transit, bus rapid transit, heavy rail transit, and freight rail projects throughout the Pacific Northwest. Responsibilities include trackway design, alignment, and identification of safety improvements.

You should be a self-motivated professional with a B.S. in Civil Engineering (or equivalent, M.S. preferred) and be a licensed professional engineer in the State of Oregon with a minimum of six years experience in rail design. Successful candidates will be able to work independently on large design tasks with minimal guidance, and provide oversight and mentoring to junior rail designers. You will also demonstrate a knowledge of other design disciplines as well as strong collaborative skills between those disciplines on large teams. Effective written and verbal communication skills are a must. Candidates must be experienced with AutoCAD and MicroStation. Experience with the Land Development Desktop is preferred as well as a desire to grow personally as well as professionally with each engineering opportunity.

Our Associate Engineers:


  • Mentor and assist junior engineers

  • May coordinate design activities and meetings between staff, subcontractors, and CH2M HILL

  • Lead and support safety plan

  • Assist in business development and proposal efforts

  • Interact with CH2M HILL project teams and client program level directors

  • Complete tasks within schedule and budget with teams comprised of different disciplines

  • Have strong written and oral communication skills and a team-oriented attitude


  • Qualifications: Basic Qualifications:

    • BS in Civil Engineering

    • A minimum of 8 years experience in rail design or similar design experience

    • Capability to work with AutoCad
